We had the pleasure of having a very special junior intern join us here at Martketer during the summer. Andy, our Managing Partner, had a request from his 12 year old daughter, Brook, to job shadow our team, and we happily obliged! Brook was very interested in learning the in’s and out’s of Martketer after hearing so much from her dad. We gave her an introduction to all our departments, but she especially took an interest in social media, digital marketing, and photography. Shanna, our Social Media Strategist had Brook job shadow her, giving her tips and tricks on social media marketing and online content creation. Starting small, Brook had the task of gathering inspiration for Martketer’s own social media platforms and blogs. After becoming inspired, she suggested she write our upcoming blog from her perspective. So, we are pleased to present Blogging with Brook! Keep reading to learn more about her time with us over the summer.
Hello my name is Brook and I am a junior intern at Martketer Inc! I go to Studio 9 School of the Arts, and am very passionate about art and expressing myself. Outside of school, I act, sing and model. When I’m older I want to be an actress and work with interior design, so I thought Martketer would be a great job to learn from, as they are professionals at expressing themselves and their clients creatively.
When I was on the photography team for my school we took pictures for the yearbook, and I loved that whole process so I was excited to learn more about editing photos and to work on real photoshoots. I’ve done projects before that have to do with design but nothing like what they do at Martketer. In a school project we had to find different tech websites and create an online video game, that’s the closest thing I’ve ever done to graphic design. While interning, I got to see the entire process from start to finish – Natasha, a designer, drafts up cool mockups of websites based on the communication strategy that Rebecca writes for the clients, then Cole makes the web design come to life using crazy coding!
I’ve wanted to intern at Martketer for awhile, (my dad said I had to be older) because I wanted to learn more about the industry and what it takes to create a business using marketing. I was also very passionate about social media, design, photography and more. So far I have just started to learn about graphic design and social media, and I’m excited to do more! Shanna has shown me the process of creating a content calendar, how social media platforms are used for businesses, and how to see if your posts are actually making a difference through monitoring metrics.
I’m very happy that I have been able to learn from such funny, kind, and smart people, who have accepted me and included me in their work. I have gotten the chance to work with Shanna and Natasha closely, and everyone on the team is very talented and have been teaching me great things! Everyday I’m learning new things and growing my technology, marketing, and business skills. My favourite part of the job is getting to work with such a hardworking, creative team that keeps me smiling all day! My favourite part was probably helping Shanna organize a big scavenger hunt and ping pong tournament for our Fri-YAY team activities!
This internship has been a great experience, I wish I could stay longer but I have to start school, but now I can use what I learned this summer at school and after I graduate! Thanks for reading “Blogging with Brook!” 🙂
