As the world becomes further integrated with technology, companies are quickly learning to become more social media savvy in order to meet their customer’s demands. An estimated 2.1 billion people were using social media last year; a number that is expected to grow to 2.5 billion by 2018. 90% of young adults are using social media and 52% of online adults are now actively using two or more social media sites. Users aren’t the only ones moving in this direction; 96% of small business owners and marketers use social media marketing, and 92% of those agree or strongly agree with the phrase, “social media marketing is important for my business”.
Although many companies realize the importance of social media, they aren’t sure where to start. There can be a lot of questions when implementing a social media strategy; “What platform is right for me?”, “How do I engage with my followers?”, “How many posts should I put out?”, “What is a hashtag?”. Although it can seem overwhelming, taking the first step into this digital world should be seen as an exciting way to connect with your community and showcase your company.
When we initiated a social media reset for Martketer, we drafted a major plan – on paper. It is important to have a solid understanding of what you want to achieve and how to convey it through social media before you start throwing content out on the web – hoping it will stick somewhere. Here at Martketer, we have a simple goal behind our social media; convey our client work and our culture through the platforms that mean the most to us and our followers. We use Instagram to showcase our favourite client pieces and our talented team members. Facebook for us is used to share our company blogs, interesting news and events, and fun behind-the-scenes action of daily Martketer life. LinkedIn is our digital business card, where we humble-brag, connect with other community leaders, and update our followers on our (many) new addresses as we move offices. Last but not least, we use Twitter mainly to stay up to date on trends and to laugh at Trump’s latest tweets.
No matter which platform you choose to convey your message on, it is important to always have meaning and intention behind each post, otherwise social media quickly becomes a shallow, over-saturated pool of content that readers glaze over.
Whether you are wondering how to increase your engagement on Facebook, create a content calendar for multiple platforms, or figure out what a filter is, Martketer can guide you to ensure your social media presence is always meaningful.
